Ostuni, White Lady & Olive Oil Tradition
Picture a sea of bright white buildings clinging to a hillside, surrounded by thick green countryside. The area has been inhabited since the Paleolithic Age, but the "White City" was developed in the 12th century when Ostuni was under the control of the Normans. The beautiful downtown historic houses have white washed facades and flat roofs.
After a pleasant drive on the Adriatic highway, we will take an off the beaten path where you will be surrounded by ancient olive trees 4-500 years old: enjoy the huge trunks of these "grandfathers" completely twisted to support their branches with the Adriatic Sea on one side and the Murge plateau on the other. Soon we will visit an olive oil farm where you can taste extra virgin olive oil.
Once in Ostuni, your guide will walk you through the town’s narrow alleyways, so you can admire the flowers that adorn the old balconies and enjoy the views that stretch out from the terraces. Following the walls' circular structure built in the XIV century, narrow streets, arches and stairways join Ostuni's tiny dwellings to the highest point of the town’s medieval settlement, where a castle was located. Enjoy some free time for a stroll or seat in one of the many caffetteria and enjoy an "espresso" or "gelato".
Combine your visit of Ostuni with another town such as Alberobello, Lecce or Brindisi...
Or simply add a wine tasting option including a local cellar visit.
